Production process: Fired in an oxidising atmosphere, not smoked. The colour is the direct result of the clay composition and the firing temperature.

Forming method: According to the waterstruck principle, in which the clay is pressed into a mould and released using water alone.

Clay composition: 100% refractory kaolinitic-illitic Westerwald clay of Mesozoic age, blended with iron-rich clay to give its characteristic depth of colour.

Colour: Obsidian, with a delicate white engobe mist

Mineral engobe: Fine white, applied before firing; a poetic softness over a dark base

Appearance: Powerful and dreamlike at once, in a slender proportion; a sharp graphic effect

Surface texture: Characteristic waterstruck structure; the mineral engobe adds a further layer of texture; the slender proportion strengthens the graphic effect; the water used as a release agent remains visible in the surface
